Cinderella Pumpkin Coach
Magical transportation, from Halloween into the Celtic New Year
… It's an acorn squash with garlic bulb wheels!
Our first attempt. We'd love to make one every year.
We love how it looks with a candle burning inside.
A bit of fancy metal work inside the squash
covers the window opening
making the candlelight extra magical.
This was our inspiration from BHG …
Here's the detailed diagram of how BHG did the under-carriage,
a very complex design using dowels, a drill, criss-crossing wire,
and drawer pulls.
We simply used some trimmed wooden chopsticks
which pushed quite easily into the garlic bulbs.
Our wire was thick and made of copper which also
pushed easily into the bulbs, so we could simplify, as you can see.
Bits and pieces like a sugarbowl lid, rhinestone buttons attached
with straightened paperclips pushed straight into the squash,
a small brass frame from a purse latch, earrings for hubcaps
(which we attached with hot glue …
)
The most time consuming part was cutting open the top
scooping out the seeds and making an opening for the brass frame.
We used a hammer and tapped on a screwdriver to cut the openings.
A little more copper wire and metallic beads is pushed
right through the squash to look like a carriage shaft.
Ready for flight into a brand new year!
